The responsible development of artificial intelligence (AI) systems requires the consideration of a number of ethical, legal, socio-cognitive and socio-economic challenges. "Responsible AI: Ethical, Legal, Social and Economic (ELSE) Aspects" is а multidisciplinary course that aims to explore the societal implications of the development and use of responsible AI and to offer practical solutions towards overcoming the ethical, legal, social and economic challenges.
Divided in three main modules, the course examines a wide range of practical and theoretical issues related to the development and use of AI in seeking adequate technological, ethical, legal, socio-economic and socio-cognitive frameworks, guidelines and technological solutions. The overall goal of the course is to provide a comprehensive theoretical overview of the issues at hand while focusing on practical problems through the prism of 5 scenarios: autonomous drones; autonomous cars; care robots; chat bots; and personalized (precision) medicine.
The course is the first and only Bulgarian academic course pondering the legal and ethical aspects of artificial intelligence systems. It is developed for the purposes fo Artificial Intelligence Master Programme at the Faculty of Mathematics and Informatics at Sofia University, but is currently offered as an elective course for several other programmes at the same faculty.
The course is led by Alexandra Tsvetkova and Ivo Emanuilov.
