On March 17, 2018, “Teodor Piperkov” Law Club together with LIBRe Foundation held a lecture on the General Data Protection Regulation, aimed at law students. The event provided a multidisciplinary approach to privacy and personal data protection issues in the context of the present information society - with the development of digital technologies these two fundamental rights take on an increasingly central role as guarantors of the autonomy, dignity and free development of citizens online.

The lecture took place at 255th Auditorium in Sofia University and was the first event out of a two-step initiative which combines theory, practice and discussions on the problems posed. During the day, LIBRe Foundation’s team, presented by Alexandra Tsvetkova and Hristiyan Dimov, discussed the historical and cultural factors that led to the modern personal data protection legal framework and the instruments guaranteeing citizens’ rights, the basic concepts behind and the new provisions provided of the General Data Protection Regulation, and the current trends on data protection in general.

The lecture was open to visitors and it gathered the Law Club guests from several universities and disciplines, as well as experts with various backgrounds interested in the subject matter of the discussion.
