Today We Celebrate Safer Internet Day 2016!

Safer Internet Day (SID) started as an initiative of the EU SafeBorders project in 2004 and was taken up by the Insafe network of European Safer Internet Centres as one of its earliest actions in 2005. Since then the celebration becomes more and more popular and now the 13th edition is being marked by 120 countries across the world.

SID is devoted to children and young people. From cyberbullying to social networking, each year Safer Internet Day aims to raise awareness of emerging online issues and chooses a topic reflecting current concerns. This year the theme is 'Play your part for a better internet'. Local committees of the Insafe network around the world found different ways to mark Safer Internet Day.

In UK for example a third edition of a SID TV was released. The channel was created to provide programmes full of fun, advice, young people’s voices and celebrity messages related to safer Internet. In Cyprus a SID video competition was initiated.

In Bulgaria the celebration of Safer Internet Day (SID) 2016 will consist of two parts:

A press-conference for presenting the results of a qualitative study ‘Children 0 to 8 and digital technologies' - part of a joint European research initiative.

A main national event, where the SID theme and message will be presented to an auditorium of children, young people, teachers, parents, educators and representatives of state institutions.
