LIBRe Foundation started 2023 with a new project in the field of justice - „Justice, fundamental rights, and Artificial Intelligence“ (JuLIA) Project, with a focus on the protection of fundamental rights and how they are affected by (semi-)automated decision-making.
JuLIA aims to improve the understanding among judges of algorithmic decision-making processes and the legal implications for the right to a fair trial and other fundamental human rights and principles in five main areas: judicial decision-making, algorithmic governance, healthcare, consumer protection, and protection of personal data. Project activities envisage the creation of a database of useful materials and case law, the development of training methodology, training materials and manuals in the five areas of application, and the implementation of transnational trainings, justice labs and e-learning modules to target magistrates from all over Europe.
The project was funded by the European Union’s Justice Programme (2021-2027) under Grant Agreement 101046631.
LIBRe Foundation participates together with 10 other partner organizations from 7 different countries, under the management of the Pompeu Fabra University (Spain).
