Artificial Intelligence and Consumer Protection: Registration is Now Open!


As part of the JuLIA Project, LIBRe Foundation organizes a 'Artificial Intelligence and Consumer Protection' Justice Lab. The event aims to examine the interaction of AI technologies on consumer law and is designed for Bulgarian judges who deal professionally with consumer protection cases or have an interest in the topic.

Alexandra Tsvetkova (LIBRe Foundation) is to present the objectives of the lab as well as the regulatory architecture of the Artificial Intelligence Act and its place in the consumer protection system;

Ivo Emanuilov (LIBRe Foundation) is to introduce the safety and compliance requirements that digital goods and services, as well as goods with a digital element, must meet. He is to look at examples from different jurisdictions, as well as the recent preliminary ruling of the Sofia District Court in ECJ case C-806/24;

Prof. Dr. Tanya Yosifova (Professor of Civil and Family Law, Attorney at law from the Sofia Bar Association) is to comment on the new Product Liability Directive and is to present the role of software as a good, as well as the relationship between the principles set out in this legislation and the Artificial Intelligence Act.

The objective of the event is to present practical case studies, to encourage discussions around the role of AI in consumer law and how it affects fundamental institutes such as liability for defective products. The Justice Lab will present the European perspective on the risks, challenges and legitimacy of the use of these tools in the field of consumer law.

The event will be held online, via the Zoom platform, on July 1, 2025 (Tuesday) from 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm, in Bulgarian.
