Biometrics includes all data generated by the measurement and statistical analysis of peoples’ physical, behavioural and technical characteristics: fingerprints, faces, irises, or passwords, photos and activities recorded on various devices. Biometrics poses a growing challenge in many areas: Where is the data stored? Who can access it for what purpose? Could it be hacked and misused? How can citizens protect themselves? How should employee files be managed?
The Swiss Distance Learning University addressed those challenges by developing a special course in Biometrics and Privacy. The course aims to teach concepts and technologies in the area of Biometrics and Privacy and provide students with a full understanding of data protection, privacy preservation, compliance with privacy regulations and potential privacy losses.
If you are interested in the topic, you could find more information about the Certificate of Advanced Studies (CAS) in Biometrics and Privacy on the Swiss Distance Learning University website and in this flyer.
The area of Biometrics and Privacy is of great interest to the team of LIBRe Foundation. In October 2016 Our CEO Alexandra Tsvetkova participated with a paper at the National Conference on Bioethics and Biolaw in Bulgaria. She presented the topic of “Medical Social Networks – Bio-ethical and Bio-legal Aspects” together with Maria Petrova, MD, JD, MPH, Medical Malpractice Attorney and leading expert at Lex Мedica.
